Fallopian Tubal Patency Assessed by Ultrasound following Normal Saline Injection

Abstract
The ability of ultrasound to detect patency of at least one fallopian tube by demonstrating free fluid in the cul-de-sac was evaluated at the Chung-Ang University Young-San hospital from February to August, in 1986.
The ability to diagnosis tubal occlusion or patency using this ultrasound technique which have designated sonosalpingography.
The result were composed with conventional hysterosalpingography which have been obtained simultaineously.
Ultrasound demonstrated bilateral occlusion with a specificity of 100% and showed tuba¢¥ patency with a sensitivity of 90% and accuracy of 90.9%.
Above results represent that sonosalpingography eliminates unnecessary exposure of the
female pelvis to ionizing radiation, avoids the use of iodinated contrast material detect. Associated pathology and tubal patency was highly correlation between hysterosalpingography and sonosalpingography.
